Day 59 – Twisted Visions

Everything is nothing with a twist. – Kurt Vonnegut

Today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture was inspired by this particular item that has sat around my home for many, many years. It has traveled from one or two generations to another. So yes, this is an antique, from a different era. Did I give too much away? Can you tell? Do you know?

What Is It?!?

20130227-2013_02_27_2362-4What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 58)

Oh, the guesses! Was it dried plaster of paris? No. Biscotti? Wow, it does look like biscotti. But no. Something deep fried? With black pepper? No and no. Fried chicken leg? Yum. But no. Kitchen towel that needs to go in the wash? LOL! No. Cookie? I’m sensing a food theme today. 🙂 Not a cookie either. It’s an almond! No, it’s not. Yesterday’s photograph was of the inside of a nutmeg, my all-time favorite go-to spice for baking and cooking. I was inspired by the patterns within that little nugget of spice treasure.

Wanted to share a little sunshine today. I took this photograph using a solar filter for my lens. You can faintly see a sun spot in the lower right side.

Day 58 – Hanging By a Thread

When you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot in it and hang on. – Thomas Jefferson

Oh, my muse, where in the heck are you hiding? Suddenly the stream of creativity has stopped flowing, the barricades are up and impassable, my muse must have escaped down the road without me. Boo, hiss.

Sometimes life just gets in the way. Chaos! Clutter! Child sick!

Today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture was a lark. I had already captured several images when I suddenly thought, “how about this?” It’s one of my all-time favorite go-to items. Can you tell? Do you know?

What Is It?!

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 57)

Yesterday’s picture was one I took over the weekend when my family took a little sojourn to Walt Disney World. It wasn’t a kaleidoscope, not a doped-up on steroids Rubik’s cube, drawing, or multi-sided cube. 🙂 If I say the word “Epcot,” do you know what it is now?

I was inspired by the shapes, geometry, and symmetry of this very large Epcot Spaceship Earth. My son thinks the structure looks like a super-size golf ball. I can attest that the ride inside is well worth the wait. How else would I have had time to take this photograph?

P.S. A special tip-of-the-hat to my hubby for keeping his lips sealed and not giving away the answer. He would have been in Trouble, yes, with a capital T!

Day 57 – Brewing Bubbles

The mind is everything. What you think you become. – Buddha

Last night I liked and commented on a picture that was titled “Bubbles in My Beer” and said that I would have never guessed it was bubbles in beer and that it would make a great “what is it?!?” picture. Jerry replied, “Well Schelley, actually they are not bubbles. Now it’s my turn to play “What Is It”.” Okay, so the tables turned and it was my turn to be challenged! I love it! Now I know how y’all feel when I post these funky pictures and you have no clue as to what the picture is. 🙂

But that doesn’t mean I’m going to make it any easier. I know, I know I’m full of mischief, can you hear my evil “muah-ha-ha” laugh? Muah-ha-ha.

Today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture, I hope, is not easily recognizable. I was inspired by the shape and geometry of the subject. Can you guess?

What Is It?!?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 56)

Is it a floor mat? No. Side of a colander? No. How about a kitchen mat with the no-skid stuff? Not that either. Okay, how about a bathtub mat? Hmmm, I sense a theme here. No, it’s not any type of mat. After giving a hint that it was a guess made on a previous picture, my buddy, Shahn, did her investigation and came up with “cheese grater?” Well, close enough. Yes, yesterday’s picture was a grater. I was inspired by that guess (that Shahn made herself!). It took lots of shots to get that vision captured. I was happy with the results. Could you tell what it was?

Bubbles in My Beer

I just have to share with you Jerry’s picture that stumped me last night. He’s a great photographer and not only do I enjoy looking at his work, I always get a good giggle or two out of our interactions. Take a look! Can you guess “what is it?!?” http://phoport.wordpress.com/2013/02/25/3827/

Day 56 – The World Is a Book …

The World is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page. – Saint Augustine

I was blessed with a mother who taught – and showed – my brother and I that traveling is just as important as a traditional schooling education. I have been so many places, from exotic Hawaii to glacier-filled Alaska, I’ve strolled the streets all over the world, been exposed to so many different cultures and foods and experiences. But since starting this blog and becoming a stats addict, I have had so many visitors from other countries that I haven’t yet visited, my bucket list grows each day. So many places, so little time!

Today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture is the last of my stash that I took before our little vacation this past weekend. My muse did me well last week by showing me so many visions, and I am starting to call out again for my next inspiration. Do you know? Can you guess?

What Is It?!?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 55)

One of my all-time favorite guesses: “Cheezits floating in a sea of sriacha sauce!” Alas, that’s not what the subject was. Nor was it tile or a back splash. “Reverse lights” was close enough, since the picture was the reflector part of brake lights (a different car than the other pic I posted of brake lights, I know, I’m a dirty rascal!). Just goes to show, everything and everyone has a different perspective!

A Word of Thanks

I’ve been honored that Krzysztof Alexandrowicz (http://artslooking.wordpress.com) has reblogged two of my posts. He has also complimented my work, which makes me feel really, really good. I am so thankful for feedback, and like I said, I feel honored that someone, another artist, appreciates my work. So thank you, Krzysztof!

And then, today, I found out that my friend, Carissa (http://ramblingsofabipolarwoman.wordpress.com) nominated me for the The Very Inspiring Blogger 2013 award. Her kind words also put a very large smile on my face today! We both agreed that the best part about blogging is making connections with other people. Thank you, Carissa!

To the rest of my blogger community and followers, I also thank each of you for taking the time to peruse my funky pictures and read some of my rambling posts. You are a welcome addition to my space here in cyber world. Ciao, friends!

Day 55 – Persistence, Perspective, and Photography

Energy and persistence conquer all things. – Benjamin Franklin

A whirlwind weekend comes to an end, back to reality, responsibilities, and work. Not that I ever left those three to begin with. But the constant is always persistence, perspective, and photography!

Today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture nears the end of the stash of pictures I took before my mini vacation. I saw – and photographed – many items over the weekend that might just make an appearance here in the future! For the picture below, can you tell? Do you know?

What Is It?!?

ImageWhat Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 54)

It seemed as though the guesses for yesterday’s picture focused on kitchen items, but I can assure you that the subject was not a cookie cooling rack, nor a metal bacon cooker or whisk, not a kitchen blade for shredding, or a grill. It also wasn’t a pen or marker, or a lamp shade. Have you ever wondered what makes up part of your car headlights? Now you know! Those lines are the part of the headlights that encompass the actual reflectors and lights.

Day 54 – The Daily Picture

All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better. – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Another later-than-normal post, I was pleasantly surprised to find a friend clamoring for my daily picture, and come to find out, her entire family is now playing the daily “what is it?!?” guessing game. That is awesome! You inspire me to continue expanding my 365-day project.

So because I knew my time would be limited this weekend, I made sure I had all the daily mystery “what is it?!?” pictures stocked up. Here is today’s. Do you know? Can you guess?

What Is It?!?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 53)

I stumped my son and nieces with yesterday’s picture, although the subject was quite familiar with all, suddenly it became a foreign object. Well, except for the cross they all immediately noticed. But they didn’t see what it actually was, the photograph was of a bicycle’s tire tread. 🙂

Day 53 – Running Around the World

“Laughter is timeless. Imagination has no age. And dreams are forever.” – Walt Disney

Just a few minutes short of hitting midnight without making my daily post, been around the world and back, fortunately it’s a short trip when you’re at Disney. It doesn’t matter what age you are, young or old, this place is a dreamland for all.

So today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture might be a little late, but better late than never!

What Is It?!?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 52)

We quickly established that the subject in question was made of copper, but what was it? Not a fish with a stone in its mouth, not a turtle, and some other funny guesses (an acorn, rose, etc.) but if you look again, do you see the eye? Yes, it’s an eye. I was inspired by a sculpture my mom had commissioned from Fred Holshue in the 1970s. Her name is “Leaves” and once I’m able, I will post a full picture of this beautiful creation. Here’s a different perspective.
