Day 120 – What a Strainer

We don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are. – Anais Nin

Each of us brings our own unique view to the world. These one-of-a-kind perspectives make us the individuals that we are, how we interpret what happens around us, how we “see the world.” There’s something to be said about wearing those proverbial “rose-colored glasses,” for our perspectives do indeed color our world.

My world these days is green, vibrant, and full of surprises. I can photograph the same subjects every day, but yet see something new or different each day, and if I think I haven’t found anything, I know it’s because I just haven’t looked hard enough, or close enough, or from a different perspective.

Today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture is of a subject that “caught my eye” several days ago. I really haven’t altered any colors or even cropped very much, it’s one of those “broader” perspectives I use occasionally. Do you know? Can you tell?

What Is It?!?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 119)

Oh, how I was so sure no-one would guess this one easily. Nope! I was wrong. I truly cannot determine what will remain a mystery or not. But it’s all fun regardless. Was it a disco ball? Groovy, but no. A metal fence? Not that either. A honeycomb grid? Not a honeycomb grid. A sieve?

Ding ding ding! Yes, it’s a sieve, a handheld metal strainer. Great guess!

Day 119 – Fun Is Good

Fun is good. – Dr. Seuss

No shortage of work around here, Monday has already proven to be, well, a typical Monday. But I’ve learned that I work best under pressure, I even thrive; however, I’m not that great at handling the pressure/stress. So what’s the remedy? Fun! Because after all, fun is good.

Today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture was a lark. I had no set plans and decided, on a whim, to make this my subject. One image in particular I just love. It’s this one! Do you know? Can you tell?

What Is It?!?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 118)

Yesterday’s image is a prime example of how things look different to different people, there were a wide variety of guesses, quite interesting! It looked like the side of a dried mushroom to one. It could be concrete with something growing on it, or coral, or a starfish. To another it looked like a toad or frog-type skin. Or underneath a fern leaf. And then Paul dinged the winner’s bell with the correct guess of tree bark.

I was taking pictures of our Japanese Red Maple tree and happened to notice these unusual patterns on the bark, almost like a mirror image. That tree was just full of hidden treasures!

Surprise Visitor

Image

Something my 365-Day Project in Perspective has taught me is that you never know what you’ll find no matter what you’re looking at. While reviewing photographs, I discovered this surprise visitor; I hadn’t even noticed it while taking the picture!

Day 118 – Nature Has a Pattern

Don’t go through life, grow through life. – Eric Butterworth

Each and every day is a learning experience, whether we know we learned or not. Sometimes the lesson doesn’t be come clear until way down the road. It’s kind of like you are where you’re supposed to be, regardless of if it feels good or not.

Today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture was inspired by what I found when looking for something else. It might not be disguised well, but I love what that little treasure was. Now I share it with you. Do you know? Can you tell?

What Is It?!?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 117)

Was it powder on a glass surface? Or dust on a wooden surface? Not either of those, but interesting perspectives! How about a seashell?

I should have known I couldn’t fool Gail, she rang the ding-ding-ding bell on just the second guess. Yes, it was the inside of a seashell. I liked the very pale colors of blue and white, just like the colors of the ocean where it once lived.

Day 117 – Gone to the Weeds

Colors are the smiles of nature. – Leigh Hunt

Much to my dismay, my gardens have all practically gone to the weeds. Good thing I love weeding (it’s instant gratification and therapeutic to get my hands dirty). Bad thing it got so hot so quickly! But I’m not giving up. No, no, no. Must make room for the beautiful colors of nature. During my first round I discovered lots of interesting things, those little treasures just waiting to be revealed.

Today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture was inspired by looking at this subject differently than you might normally view it. Can you tell? Do you know?

What Is It?!?

20130427-2013_04_27_5280What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 116)

Shahn came oh-so-close to guessing yesterday’s picture! But alas, it continued as a mystery here on wordpress.com; however, Paul managed to reveal the subject’s identity on Facebook. But before I reveal to you, let’s go through the guesses. Was it a closeup of a headlight or taillight of a car? Ooooh, close, kind of, but not on a car. Test tubes in a test tube holder? Not that either. Were they lights around a makeup mirror? Not around a makeup mirror …

… and that was my subtle clue to Shahn. My replies are all carefully worded. Had I said “not lights around a makeup mirror,” you could assume that I mean they’re not lights and not around a makeup mirror. But “not around a makeup mirror” meant the mirror part was incorrect … but not the lights.

So … drum roll please … what you saw were the LED lights in a flashlight. I liked how the lights picked up the surrounding colors.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Culture

Image

One of the many things I love about New Orleans, Louisiana, is its culture. Take a walk down many of her streets and you’ll encounter performers of all types. This musician was particularly good!

You can enter, too! http://dailypost.wordpress.com/2013/04/26/photo-challenge-culture/

Day 116 – Live Love Laugh

I have found that if you love life, life will love you back. – Arthur Rubinstein

Attempting a quick post so I can go to my son’s all-school play and fish fry afterwards. We’re so fortunate to be part of such a caring, creative community, our son is getting so much more than just the educational basics. And I must say, kids doing anything creative is absolutely splendid!

So here’s today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture, I was inspired by the pattern. Can you tell? Do you know?

What Is It?!?

20130426-2013_04_26_5272What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 115)

I was really tempted to post a different view of yesterday’s picture today (as the mystery picture) because nobody guessed its identity. So I’ll post it here and let some of you see if you now know what it is. Do you?

20130424-2013_04_24_5240

Yesterday’s picture certainly generated some guesses though. Was it chocolate in a cookie or ice cream? No, not chocolate. A lion’s nose? Cute! But no. A blonde brownie? Not that either. Ceramic … something? Not ceramic anything. A helmet for Spongebob Squarepant’s trousers? LOL! Nope. But what great guesses! What you saw was the inside of a small wrench. I’m discovering tools have lots more uses than I thought! ha ha 🙂

Day 115 – See and Be

If you want to be happy, be. – Leo Tolstoy

I’m actually standing while writing this post, what a joy to finally be able to get off my you-know-what and not sit in front of a computer all day. Like a friend said about getting a new office chair, “it’s the simple things in life” that make us happy. Agreed indeed! My new ergonomic sit/stand workstation is fantastic (although my feet hurt)! Note to self: start wearing shoes.

I’ve already started thinking about what subject to use for tomorrow’s post, it *is* the little things that make us happy and excited. But since today is today, I’ll focus instead on, well, today. 🙂

Today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture was inspired as a challenge to myself. This subject was not the easiest to take away its familiarity, and not sure if I succeeded. We’re about to find out. Do you know? Can you tell?

What Is It?!?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 114)

I couldn’t sneak this one past Jerry, he obviously had help from Captain Morgan figuring out yesterday’s mystery subject. I was inspired by the color and pattern that appeared in this glass container top that was reflecting the pattern of the screen and colors from the garden. So it wasn’t a huge mystery after all! But I sure did like the outcome.

Even though the guessing game ended quickly, I did receive some encouraging and very nice comments, and that has just made my day! “This is a great shot-thank you for the daily reminder to not just to look, but to see!” “love this <3” “…love the colors!”

YAY!
