Day 304/365 – Boo!

Wear a smile and have friends; wear a scowl and have wrinkles. – George Eliot

It’s Halloween time over here in my “neck of the woods,” and it’s time for me to transform my 11-year old into a zombie clown. Woohoo! But before I go do that, I figured I better post today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture, which is ready for your guessing pleasure. Do you know? Can you tell?

What Is It?!?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 303)

Hope guessed, “styrofoam?” Not styro, but it is fom. Ding ding ding! Lisa said, “I am reminded of Styrofoam too… maybe the kind of foam in floating toys?” It’s not a floating toy, but is foam. Double ding ding ding! Y. Prior asked, “is day 303 “packaging foam” – like a type of foam that holds a camera or musical instrument….” Not for packaging. Chip guessed, “a foam football?” Not a football. Then Jerry summed up the guessing game with, “A b&w before makeup shot.” Now y’all should know I wouldn’t post something that terrifying. Or would I? (insert cackle of a witch here …) 😉

So what was it? What you saw was a foam clown’s nose, part of Ian’s costume. Of course it’s red but I changed it! (witch cackle again …)

Day 303/365 – Stumbling Up the Staircase

Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase. – Martin Luther King, Jr.

When I was a young child, I was notorious for hurting myself on our stairs, but not by falling down, rather tripping while trying to go up. Oh well, I survived, and have quite a few shin scars to sport. It seems lately, it becomes more and more difficult to continue up the stairs, committing to a 365-day project is more an undertaking than I ever anticipated. So for the rest of you in the midst of your own 365-day projects, I salute you! We’ve only got 62 steps to go. On that note, today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture is ready for your guessing pleasure. Do you know? Can you tell?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 302)

Kim asked, “It’s a pair of hemostats?” Not hemostats. Heather’s first guess, “salad tongs…” But not salad tongs either. Y. Prior’s perspective: “I think a clue would have helped with the picture for day #302. hmmm, let’s see, I was going to say it looks like a stainless steel cup with coffee inside. But the little ding on the rim, and the thickness of the rim refutes that. so my final guess – is it a button or snap?” Not a button or snap, but interesting perspective with the coffee cup. Nodimlight’s perspective: “I am not a musician, but it reminds me of the buttons (or whatever they are called!) on my daughter’s clarinet, or any type of wind instrument.” Not the keys on a clarinet/wind instrument, but that’s a neat perspective, too!

Then Heather’s second guess and Brenda’s first both rang the ding-ding-ding winning bells: scissors. But their individual comments made it oh-so-much more interesting! Heather commented, “that was actually my first thought and I didn’t go with it…coming from someone who always says “go with your first thought”… :) Brenda said, “I knew it. If the answer flashes immediately into your mind, you are almost always right, I’ve noticed. :-) I must have a pair just like yours.” Interesting how both were thinking the same thing.

Day 302/365 – Momentum

If you smile when no one else is around, you really mean it. – Andy Rooney

It’s dark outside and I haven’t even yet started the nightly routine, I suppose tonight will rush by as quickly as today did. Nonetheless, for the 302nd time, here is today’s mystery “what is it?!?”  picture, which is ready for your guessing pleasure. Do you know? Can you tell?

What Is It?!?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 301)

Hope’s perspective: “toothbrush.” But not a toothbrush. Then Andrew guessed it, “Tip of a highlighter cap?!” Even Jude figured it out. “Ah, this one is easy today Schelley. Has to be the cap from a highlighter or permanent marker pen.” Yes, indeed, what you saw was a yellow highlighter cap.

Day 301/365 – Daily Discovery

Discovery consists of seeing what everybody has seen, and thinking what nobody has thought. – Albert Szent-Gyorgyi

Fortunately I didn’t have to look very far for my daily subject, so today’s mystery “what is it?!?”  photograph is ready for your guessing pleasure. Do you know? Can you tell?

What Is It?!?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 300)

Paul (aka funny hubby) commented, “Is it the Millemium Falcon flying through the innards of the 2nd Death Star?” Alas, I don’t think I could handle flying through space to get this shot, so not the Millenium Falcon. Girish thought, “its inside one of those light bulb things, you know like those tiny ones that go on a tree kinds” Well, it does have to do with a light but not those little tiny ones. So you’re partially correct! Ding ding! 😀 “Partial Credit ! The secret to getting a better grade !” Indeed! Mic got it right away, “Looks like a light fixture of some sort? A quartz element in the center with its reflection off the glass envelope of the light to the lower right? Strobe light?” Yes, it’s a strobe light! Ding ding ding! Jude said, “certainly looks like a light-bulb moment to me.” And in a way, it is. 😉 “curiouser and curiouser” said Alice.

So what you saw was the reflection inside of a strobe light. Hubby was pulling out Halloween props last night and the strobe light’s inner reflections captured my muse’s attention!

Day 300/365 – A Good Mystery

Women. They are a complete mystery. – Stephen Hawking

I find this quote particularly amusing, especially coming from Stephen Hawking, such an uber brilliant genius. My hubby is enthralled by him, and I think would agree with his sentiment. But hey, we women folk can say the same thing about the opposite sex! Speaking of mysteries, I picked out a good one for today’s mystery “what is it?!?” subject. Do you know. Can you tell?

What Is It?!?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 299)

Girish guessed, “envelope.” Not an envelope. “check again , im positive it is! I put it there !” I did double-chedck and it swears it’s not an envelope. Jude said, “Hmmm… are you really sure, because I could also swear it IS an envelope!” Trust me, not an envelope. Looks can be so deceiving! Heather commented, “Hmmmm, I’m thinking card board, or some kind of packaging???” Not cardboard or packaging, but you’re close. Then Y.M. Prior won the ding-ding-ding winning bell with “paper bag?” Yes, what you saw was a paper bag. Weedimageoftheday gets honorable mention for also guessing paper bag. Double ding-ding-dings! 😀

Day 299/365 – The Flow’s Not Flowing

The smallest feline is a masterpiece. – Leonardo da Vinci

Why is it some days creativity flows and flows, and other days it’s just a dead stream, littered with branches, mucked up leaves, and stagnant nothingness? Although I found plenty of life to photograph, discovering the mystery subject for today was downright difficult. I had photographed a subject my son suggested (because I asked him to come up with something!), but then I saw this something else. I really didn’t like any of the images, until this last one, which will just have to suffice. sigh Today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture isn’t a masterpiece, but it is ready for your guessing pleasure. Can you tell? Do you know?

What Is It?!?

2013_10_26_9999_12-2

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 298)

Jude asked, “is it a tennis ball?” Not a tennis ball. Yesterday’s subject was a result of rifling through our junk drawer, and trust me, it’s full of a lot of junk. I did not change the color, this is exactly as the subject appears. So what was it? What you saw was green masking tape. I didn’t notice any of those fabric hairs until I took the macro photograph. Interesting!

Day 298/365 – Perhaps

Perhaps I am stronger than I think. – Thomas Merton

There is a new skein of yarn calling my name and since I have only knitted/crocheted only around 100 scarves, there’s always the need for another one, right? After all, the winter holidays are only around 60 days away! (EEEK!) Well, at least today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture is now ready for your guessing pleasure. Do you know? Can you tell?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 297)

Jude commented, “You have lots of lights going on there, so is it part of a chandelier or glass lampshade?” Not a chandelier, glass, or lampshade. Brenda said, “Crumpled up plastic wrap.” Ding ding ding! Marilyn’s perspective: “Crinkled cellophane?” That would be a double ding-ding-ding winning bell! Yes, what you saw was a piece of crumpled up plastic wrap/cellophane. I must admit thinking of mystery subjects is sometimes difficult! But anything can work if I’m willing to look at it with a different perspective. 😉
