Day 334/365 – Winning Beginning

Winning starts with beginning. – Robert H. Schuller

There’s nothing sweeter than winning, is there? It was a fine day for college football, especially if you’re a fan of the Florida State University Seminole football team, which is now #1! GO NOLES! Now, back to business. Today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture is ready for your guessing pleasure. Can you tell? Do you know?

What Is It?!?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 333)

Kim asked, “Is it a harmonica?” Ding ding ding! And not only did Kim figure out the mystery subject, so did Cee and Y. Prior. So yes, what you saw was indeed a harmonica. Happy trails to you … 😉

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 332)

Phantomvogel3 guessed, “I’m going to guess wood, or some sort of plant matter?” Not wood or plant matter. Jude thought, “It sure looks like wood, but I wonder if it is a pottery vase imitating wood?” Not wood or a vase imitating wood. “Curtain fabric?” Not curtain fabric either. So what was it? What you saw was a glass wall covering. Pretty funky, eh? 11-28-13-4-3

Day 332/365 – What Else Matters

If you’re happy, if you’re feeling good, then nothing else matters. – Robin Wright

Today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture is ready for your guessing pleasure. Can you tell? Do you know?

P.S. I can assure you one thing, it has absolutely nothing to do with turkey or any Thanksgiving fixins’ (as we say in the South). Thanksgiving surely didn’t turn out as any of us expected, but that’s another story. 😉

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 331)

Jude said, “At first glance I thought this might be one of those eco light bulbs, but on a closer look I’m not so sure.” Not a light bulb. Lisa commented, “Maybe I’m thinking about baking but this reminds me of the coiled burner on an electric stove top…” Ding ding ding! Marlyn mused, “i see the coil of an electric stove (?),” which is another ding ding ding! Jude thought, “Now I see it! But to be fair, most of the UK electric stoves have solid plates – it has been a while since I saw this version. Well done Lisa and Marlyn.” It’s quite educating to learn of all the differences between both sides of the pond! And for the record (and because he insists), my hubby figured this out the moment he saw the picture. Triple ding ding ding! 😉

So yes, what you saw was an electric coiled stovetop burner. We are used to having gas burners at our home, so it’s always different cooking somewhere without gas. … and it takes forever for the burners to heat up (whereas gas is instant)!

Day 331/365 – The Hope Lamp

Hope is patience with the lamp lit. – Tertullian

Whenever I’m in a different area, I always seem to find things that capture my attention. Today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture is one of those cases, and is ready for your guessing pleasure. Can you tell? Do you know?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 330)

Jude asked, “Could it be a plug socket?” Why yes, it is. Ding ding ding! Kim agreed, “Yeah, it looks like the socket for my printer plug.” Obviously this one was quite easily identified! 😉

Day 330/365 – Success!

Success is dependent on effort. – Sophocles

It’s been a long, long, long day, traveling from the top of Florida down to the bottom. Oh my goodness! At least I’ve got today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture ready for your guessing pleasure. Can you tell? Do you know?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 329)

Kim asked, “Is today’s pick Rock Candy?” Not rock candy. (Mmmmmmm, rock candy.) Amanda thought, “Hmm today’s looks like quartz stone. :) Ding ding ding! Kim said, “Dang, was my second guess…Good going Amanda!!” (Honorary ding ding ding for Kim, too!) Marilyn’s perspective, “A chrystal. It’s a chrystal.” Another ding ding ding, as this is crystallized quartz. And then Brenda came back with, “I guess crystal, but saw I was too late. And then I thought, hmm, could it be a crystal cloud over a fairy summer palace?” Now that’s a spectacular perspective. Ding ding dings all around! 😀

So yes, what you saw was the inside of a geode, which is crystallized quartz. Very pretty!

Day 329/365 – You Can’t Fool a Second Grader

Life is too short not to experiment. – Jamelia

I learned something today: you cannot fool a second grader. Remember that yesterday’s mystery picture was taken in the second grade classroom, and today I showed the picture to the class. So guess what … not only did these kids know exactly what the subject was, they knew exactly where it was. I proceeded to show them previous “what is it?!?” pictures, and they correctly guessed a large majority of those, too … even the cat picture! (One of the kids noticed that paw print right away.) I found it very enlightening that these younger minds see things that we adults do not (well, at least not as easily). Before I divulge the identity of that mystery subject, let’s get to today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture, which is ready for your guessing pleasure. Can you tell? Do you know?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 328)

C-Through The Lens guessed, “Painted fish scales?” Not painted fish scales. Susan thought, “It does look like scales…but is it the middle of a sunflower?” Not the middle of a sunflower. I should have told both of you that you were close! Gail asked, “bee honey?” not bee honey. Kan’s perspective, “Textured upholstery?” Not textured upholstery. Brenda mused, “Looks painted again. And a little like artichoke leaves, but orange.” Alas, not artichoke leaves, but that’s an interesting perspective. 😉 “Is it on a canvas?” Brenda asked. Not on canvas, but … on something else … “Cloth? It looked woven…” It’s not cloth but it is woven. “Tricky! No idea”

So what was it? Those second graders knew – and enthusiastically guessed (in unison), “Snake scales!” “From that book!” One of the boys runs off to the corner by the lamp and grabs the book, “Here it is!” 😀

Yes, what you saw were snake scales, or rather a picture of snakes on a book cover (paper, which is the woven part).

P.S. Brenda gets an honorary ding ding for guessing that it’s woven. 😉

Day 328/365 – Do You See What I See?

Art is not what you see, but what you make others see. – Edgar Degas

Today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture is a special one. A dear friend, Jennifer, is the beloved second grade teacher at Ian’s school (Cornerstone Learning Community) and she is allowing me to conduct a little “what is it?!?” experiment. This past Friday, I explored her classroom and took several mystery pictures, one of which is today’s. She claims that she knows her classroom pretty well! We shall see. 😉 Tomorrow morning (Monday) I’m going to show this picture to all of the second graders (and Miss Jennifer) and ask them their perspectives. Then I’ll share all the results. I’m so excited!

Until then, today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture is ready for your guessing pleasure. Can you tell? Do you know?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 327)

C-Through The Lens guessed, “Some kind of rice?” Not rice. Then Thomas said, “A lot of pepper seeds can grow many pepper plants next season…” Ding ding ding! Pepper seeds indeed. 😀 Salim shared, “Very interesting shot! I really was puzzled with this one :D I discovered the beauty of these seeds while preparing chili for dinner. Mmmmmmm.

So yes, what you saw were bell pepper seeds. They make a beautiful pattern inside the pepper, thus, making a great “what is it?!?” picture, even if Thomas guessed it right away. 😉
