What Was That?!? (Last Week’s Picture) – Week 15/52

Kay started the guessing game with, “Is it water? Like from a sprinkler?” Not water. Shahn mused, “I was thinking water as well. The side of a rock?” Not the side of a rock. Sébastien said, “Believe I took this shot myself…Looks like rock texture to me…” Alas, not a rock. Sarah asked, “The edge of textured materiel, like a coat sleeve cuff perhaps?” Not material.

So what was it?!?

If you live in the South, you’re well acquainted with this pesky yellow stuff. Yep, it’s pollen. In this case, a mound of pollen on my green Saturn Vue. It’s everywhere!

What Is It?!? – Week 12/52

I recently purchased a “clip-on” macro, wide angle, and fish eye lens for my iPhone, and have been more than pleased with the macro capabilities of this tiny lens! As a matter of fact, last week’s picture I took with my iPhone and macro lens, and decided to do the same this week. After all, a girl’s got to play with new stuff, right?

So here is you’re 12th weekly “what is it?!?” mystery picture, ready for your guessing pleasure. Do you know? Can you tell?

What Was That?!? (Last Week’s Picture) – Week 11/52

Sweetness commented, “I have no bloody clue.” I got a good laugh. “You have no idea how long I looked at that dang picture lol.” Sorry if I made your brain hurt! … seriously, I know how you feel, I’ve had friends post pictures and challenge me to guess, and I’ve no bloody clue either! Lilmisspoutine said, “looks like the flip side of CDs or DVDs … which they’re probably not” Jude jumped in, “I don’t know, I can see how you think that. The colour and the reflections. Maybe they are hanging up somewhere, like a wind chime?”  Not the flip side of CD or DVD or hanging up like wind chimes, but great perspectives! I’ll give y’all a clue: this is inside. Mic mused, “Here is my guess: it is the edge of a cymbal on your son’s drum set.” Not the edge of a cymbal, but another interesting perspective. (And I can totally see that now.)  “Ahh! I thought I had it!” And he usually does! Sarah pondered, “The way the metal is worked it could well be a cymbal! If not, then possibly knives or other cutlery in the kitchen?” Not knives or other cutlery. “Saucepans?” Not saucepans. “Wine cooler?” Not a wine cooler. Then Mic came back, “If it is not a cymbal, maybe it is part of a light fixture or lamp.” And that is the Ding Ding Ding!  Wow. This is part of a glass lamp that was in our room at the Embassy Suites Riverwalk in San Antonio. Great guess, Mic. “Glass!!? I think you had us all fooled on that one…it looks metallic. I have to admit that my guess on this one came out of left field somewhere…not my first impression.” This glass lamp happened to have a metallic part in the middle (that concealed the wiring), so that gave the metallic look and feel.

So yes, what you saw was the edge of a glass lamp.

What Is It?!? – Week 11/52

Greetings from San Antonio, Texas! Ian and I are enjoying spring break with my brother’s family (except for poor hubby, who has to work!), but you’re still getting your weekly mystery picture fix. 😉

So here is you’re 11th weekly “what is it?!?” mystery picture, ready for your guessing pleasure. Can you tell? Do you know?

What Is It?!?

What Was That?!? (Last Week’s Picture) – Week 10/52

For the last two “what is it?!?” mystery picture posts, I’ve noticed something. When a mystery subject was guessed here on WordPress, my Facebook players just couldn’t identify what it was; but then the reverse happened this past week. The Facebook link was guessed immediately, but not the case here on WordPress. Anyway, without further ado, let’s go over what was guessed!

Jude asked, “Is this the real colour Schelley?” Yes, it is. I sure was tempted to convert to black and white, but liked the color image better. Sarah asked, “Is this a metal nail or pin?” Well, it is metal, but not a nail or pin. “Hmmmmn, a part of an ornament?” Not part of an ornament. “Do you hang something over it?” Well, you could, but it’s not made intentionally for that. Jude came back and guessed, “Is it a railing? Like on a fence?” That would be a ding ding ding! Yes, indeed, it is part of a fence.

So if you were wondering what a macro picture of a fence looks like, your wish was granted! LOL! 😀

Never, never, never give up. – Winston Churchill

Another Monday, another mystery picture! Below you’ll find your 10th weekly “what is it?!?” picture (in total, mystery picture #375!), ready for you to guess. Can you tell? Do you know?

What Was That?!? Last Week’s Picture (Week 9/52)

Oh, last week’s picture was fun. Jude started off with, “Oh last week’s was so hard! And this week isn’t any better – I shall have to think about this.” I promise, I don’t intend to make these difficult. Sarah said, “This is really obscure! Last week’s one – very clever! Have you colourised this?” I didn’t change the color on this one, but I will say that it picked up the ambient lighting of my red walls. The subject itself is very close to its color. Fabio agreed about this being a difficult mystery subject, “Schelley, too hard for me to guess, but I loved i! Thanks much!” And then Brenda popped in, guessing, “The top of a Spanish conquistador’s helmet?” Alas, it’s not the top of a Spanish conquistador’s helmet. Mitch pondered, “Looks like some sort of glass item.” Not glass. Mic asked, “Is it my imagination or are all of them harder this year?” Again, I promise I’m not intending that! Sreejith guessed, “Edges of a rose petal ???” What a great perspective, but not edges of a rose petal. Joanne asked, “Is it a section of a drill bit?” Not a section of a drill bit, but I can certainly see that. After some sleep, Jude returned, “OK. I’m back. Still can’t make out what it is, but as a guess I shall say something material – like curtains or possibly a cushion?” Not material. Think opposite. “So something hard. Plastic? Or metal?” Metal. Ding! “So, a frame of a mirror maybe? Or curtain finial? It does appear to have a twisted appearance.” It is indeed twisted.  But I cannot expect you to know exactly what the subject is, other than it’s metal. Hint: the subject picks up the ambient lighting from my red walls.

So what was it?

What you saw was part of a twisted metal lamp stand. The light from the lamp reflecting off of my red office walls gave this the warm, reddish glow.

Colors are the smiles of nature. – Leigh Hunt

I was quite pleased with the outcome of this macro photograph, which is your eighth weekly “what is it?!?” mystery picture, ready for your guessing pleasure. Do you know? Can you tell?

Week8

What Was That?!? Last Week’s Picture (Week 7/52)

Fabio mused, “It seems like muscle. It is hard to be guessed!” Not muscle, although I can see that! Tracy thought, “Cooked pasta:-) with water running over it!!!” Not cooked pasta with water running over it, but that is a really neat perspective. Preeti guessed, “a part of some porcelain figure??” Not part of a porcelain figure. “Is it hair?? lovely long golden tresses” Not hair, but I can see that, too. And then Mic came along and guessed, “Some type of synthetic rope?” Ding ding ding!

Yes, what you saw was rope (synthetic), which is part of the handle on a laundry tub.

Character is like a tree and reputation like a shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing. – Abraham Lincoln

Amazingly, thinking of this week’s mystery subject wasn’t that hard, perhaps that’s because I expended enough “brain juice” today on the job! I’ve never been so glad to step away from the computer just long enough to photograph said mystery subject (because obviously, I’m back now. sigh). So without further ado, here is your seventh weekly “what is it?!?” mystery picture, ready for your guessing pleasure. Do you know? Can you tell?

What Was That?!? Last Week’s Picture (Week 6/52)

Brenda started the guessing game, “A seed?” Not a seed. “A button?” Not a button either. Anna guessed, “Is it the head of a Q-tip?” Not a Q-tip, although that’s what I think it looks like, too. Unfortunately, the guessing on wordpress.com ended; however, on Facebook land, the game continued. Shahn’s perspective: “A cotton wick to a candle.” Stephanie’s perspective, “A diamond!” Kim said, “My son’s brain.” Betsy thought, “Lint in ur belly button. Lololol!!” Alas, not a cotton wick, nor a diamond, not Kim’s son’s brain (LOL), nor is it lint in my belly button! But then Jacqueline guessed, “A shoe lace.” Ding ding ding! Scott won bonus points for, “An Aglet, cool.”

So yes indeed, what you saw was an Aglet, the fancy name for a shoelace. 😀

What Is It?!? – Week 6/52

Fun is good. – Dr. Seuss

I love having fun, even if it’s poking fun at myself (this week’s photo challenge Selfie picture is one example). I think society, in general, would be much happier if laughter was more commonplace – and heard on every street, in every house, in every business, in each room. Life can be too short not to be laughing or having fun. I cannot help but be happy today – even if it is that dreaded Monday – because it’s time for my “What Is It?!?” post, and these mystery pictures are nothing but fun. Fun to take the pictures, and more fun to hear your perspectives! So here you go, your sixth weekly “what is it?!?” mystery picture, ready for your guessing pleasure. This one is a little more obscure than fire or ice (and it’s in its original color, too!) … do you know? Can you tell?

What Is It?!?

Week6

What Was That?!? Last Week’s Picture (Week 5/52)

Jude said, “I see cake – yum, yum!! (Or is this wishful thinking?)” Oh Jude, that is just wishful thinking! But you’re not the only one who saw cake (Shahn on FB saw that, too). Even Joanne saw cake. “Cake? Oh no, I was thinking it was a small pool of liquid dripping down a brick step or footpath that had frozen, lol!” Always trust your gut instinct. Because it is indeed a frozen brick. Ding ding ding! “THANK GOODNESS, phew – that cake comment REALLY had me doubting my “outlook”, lol! Ring-a-ding-ding!!!” Personally, I think this looks like a ribbon of frosting. So what exactly was it? What you saw was my frozen brick mailbox. The rare sleet/snow mixture we had a couple of weeks ago formed this ribbon of ice. I had a lot of fun trying to pry open the mailbox handle. 😉 2014_01_29_9999_48

What Is It?!? – Week 5/52

Without change, something sleeps inside us, and seldom awakens. The sleeper must awaken. – Frank Herbert

I’m amazed we’re already five weeks into this year and already into our second month. Yes, time has started getting faster and faster and faster. I can’t keep up! So please excuse my one-day late “what is it?!?” mystery picture post. Life got the better of me yesterday, but today is already a better day. So with that said, here is your fifth “what is it?!?” mystery picture of the year. Do you know? Can you tell?

What Is It?!?

What Was That?!? – Last Week’s Picture (Week 4/52)

Sarah started off the short guessing game. “Sparks?” Well, ding ding ding! From what though? “Now that’s the bit I don’t know! Bedtime here so I shall think on it overnight and come up with some wild guesses. Great image!” Jude guessed, “Sparks from a barbecue?” Kind of, although we weren’t cooking anything. Then Marilyn wrapped it up, “Looks like the trails of a sparkler when it’s moving, or the embers popping from a campfire. I have some pictures of campfires in the teepee that look just like that.” Embers popping from the fire would be correct! I was experimenting with a slow shutter speed and was fascinated by the flying streaks of embers. Too cool! Or should I say too hot? LOL

So yes, what you saw were the embers/sparks from an outside fire. We occasionally have to have those here in Florida. ha ha (At this time last week it was below freezing. Today? I’m wearing a tee-shirt. Go figure.)

Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase. – Martin Luther King, Jr.

The speed at which this new year is running is incredibly fast, here we are already three weeks into the year! But the good news is that I’ve found several new mystery subjects to photograph, including the following “what is it?!?” weekly picture, which is now ready for your guessing pleasure. Do you know? Can you tell?

What Is It?!?

week3

P.S. This picture was taken with my new iPhone 5s, and edited in the Dynamic Light app.

What Was That?!? Last Week’s Picture (Week 2/52)

Brenda started the guessing game. “Crystal?” Not crystal. “Plastic?” Part of it could be plastic but I’m not sure. “Looks like part of a light-fixture or a headlight or something that shields a bulb. Or perhaps the helmet of Super Space Girl, avenger of wrongs and righter of balances.” Oh my, Brenda, you have flown so close to the correct answer to this week’s mystery subject! Alas, not the helmet of Super Space Girl (I have to keep that thing locked up), plus, it throws me off kilter. OK, so it IS part of a certain type of light-fixture, and it DOES shield a bulb. It’s NOT a headlight, it’s a ….

Jude guessed, “Is it a glass chandelier?” Not a glass chandelier. Zainab asked, “Is it an earring?” Not an earring.

Brenda ended the guessing game, I love her perseverance! “shade? sconce? I don’t know what that dern cover is called…” Not a shade or sconce. Go back to the car! “tail light or reverse light cover? Or the cover of an interior light?” A tail light indeed! Ding ding ding! 😀

Yes, what you saw was a very close-up image of a lighted tail light, rendered in black and white.

What Is It?!? – Week 2/52

Welcome to the second mystery picture of 2014! This week’s “what is it?!?” mystery picture is devoid of its original color and is ready for your guessing pleasure. Do you know? Can you tell?

What Is It?!?

What Was That?!? Last Week’s Picture (Week 1/52)

Jude guessed, “Is it a copper bowl?” Not a bowl. “A sieve?” Not a sieve. Kim asked, “A basket handle?” Not a basket handle. Jem guessed, “A bracelet?” Not a bracelet. Cee said, “A rim of a glass!” Alas, not the rim of a glass. Jude came back with this guess, “A lampshade with braid around the edge?” Not a lampshade with a fancy braid. Katie asked, “Is it a ring?” Not a ring. So what was it?

What you saw was metal, in particular, part of the decorative pattern of a “bicycle” plant stand. It looks like copper, but it’s not. 😉

2014_01_05_9999_2-2

P.S. I’ve decided to post these weekly “what is it?!?” pictures on Mondays, which generally is a high traffic day, as opposed to Sundays, when we’re all out living life. 🙂
