What Is It?!? – Week 12/52

I recently purchased a “clip-on” macro, wide angle, and fish eye lens for my iPhone, and have been more than pleased with the macro capabilities of this tiny lens! As a matter of fact, last week’s picture I took with my iPhone and macro lens, and decided to do the same this week. After all, a girl’s got to play with new stuff, right?

So here is you’re 12th weekly “what is it?!?” mystery picture, ready for your guessing pleasure. Do you know? Can you tell?

What Was That?!? (Last Week’s Picture) – Week 11/52

Sweetness commented, “I have no bloody clue.” I got a good laugh. “You have no idea how long I looked at that dang picture lol.” Sorry if I made your brain hurt! … seriously, I know how you feel, I’ve had friends post pictures and challenge me to guess, and I’ve no bloody clue either! Lilmisspoutine said, “looks like the flip side of CDs or DVDs … which they’re probably not” Jude jumped in, “I don’t know, I can see how you think that. The colour and the reflections. Maybe they are hanging up somewhere, like a wind chime?”  Not the flip side of CD or DVD or hanging up like wind chimes, but great perspectives! I’ll give y’all a clue: this is inside. Mic mused, “Here is my guess: it is the edge of a cymbal on your son’s drum set.” Not the edge of a cymbal, but another interesting perspective. (And I can totally see that now.)  “Ahh! I thought I had it!” And he usually does! Sarah pondered, “The way the metal is worked it could well be a cymbal! If not, then possibly knives or other cutlery in the kitchen?” Not knives or other cutlery. “Saucepans?” Not saucepans. “Wine cooler?” Not a wine cooler. Then Mic came back, “If it is not a cymbal, maybe it is part of a light fixture or lamp.” And that is the Ding Ding Ding!  Wow. This is part of a glass lamp that was in our room at the Embassy Suites Riverwalk in San Antonio. Great guess, Mic. “Glass!!? I think you had us all fooled on that one…it looks metallic. I have to admit that my guess on this one came out of left field somewhere…not my first impression.” This glass lamp happened to have a metallic part in the middle (that concealed the wiring), so that gave the metallic look and feel.

So yes, what you saw was the edge of a glass lamp.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Perspective

2013_03_28_3385 2013_03_28_3382

Now if this challenge isn’t literally “right up my alley,” I don’t know what is. My blog, What Is It?!? – A Project in Perspective, is all about – yep, you guessed it – perspective! For this challenge, here are two different (and never before posted) perspectives of a former “mystery subject,” but this time, with the answer. 🙂

What you see is the side of a glass pane of an outdoor lamp. This subject generated so many different perspectives (aka “guesses”); if you want to see what all of the guesses were, check out the blog post here. This time around, I converted the images to black and white.

To see other interpretations of Perspective, check out the Daily Post’s Weekly Photo Challenge here.

What Is It?!? – Week 9/52

Life must be lived as play. – Plato

It’s Monday, which means it’s time for a “what is it?!?” post! So without further ado, here is your ninth weekly “what is it?!?” mystery picture, ready for your guessing pleasure. Do you know? Can you tell?

What Was That?!? Last Week’s Picture (Week 8/52)

Jude mused, “Looks like golden shredded wheat all fused together, but I’m sure it isn’t that. Alternatively is it some kind of foam packaging material?” Not shredded what or foam packaging material. Interesting perspectives! Fabio pondered, “Schelley, it seems like a braided bread. I know it is not… “ Alas, not braided bread but I can see that! (Mmmmmmmm, bread.)  Sarah guessed, “Ginger? The spice that is!” Not ginger, the spice. (Nor Ginger, the woman!) Mic’s perspective, “My first impression was that it was a close-up of a coin. It looks like gold but is more likely brass…a decorative dish or sculpture?” Not brass, not a dish or sculpture, but yes, it does look like gold! But it’s not. So what was it?!?

What you saw was a section of stained glass. 🙂

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 347)

I was so excited about yesterday’s mystery subject, the resulting images were just too cool. Instead of looking like what it was, it looked like many different things. Mic started off, “Let’s try … bubble wrap!?” Not bubble wrap. “I knew at the time that it was way too early on Saturday morning to try to figure out your puzzle. Unfortunately, midday doesn’t seem much better…it looks like some kind of bubbles.” It does indeed look like bubbles, but not bubbles. Y. Prior asked, “bath mat or soap holder?” Not a bath mat or soap holder. Natali guessed, “tea strainer?” Not a tea strainer either. So what was it?!?

What you saw were the grape decorations on a glass jelly jar. Just at a funky angle. 😉

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 332)

Phantomvogel3 guessed, “I’m going to guess wood, or some sort of plant matter?” Not wood or plant matter. Jude thought, “It sure looks like wood, but I wonder if it is a pottery vase imitating wood?” Not wood or a vase imitating wood. “Curtain fabric?” Not curtain fabric either. So what was it? What you saw was a glass wall covering. Pretty funky, eh? 11-28-13-4-3

Day 306/365 – Must Be a Weed

Show me your garden and I shall tell you what you are. – Alfred Austin

Oh my. There’s only 25 minutes until kickoff, the infamous college football rivalry match of the FSU Seminoles against the Miami Hurricanes. GO NOLES! So I better hurry, nothing like posting with only minutes to spare. Here’s today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture, which is ready for your guessing pleasure. Do you know? Can you tell?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 305)

Girish said, “ha ! Its a brick of gold” but not a brick of gold. I wish! 😀 Y. Prior asked, “is it a chocolate bar wrapped in foil?” Not a chocolate bar wrapped in foil. (mmmmm, chocolate) Jeroen guessed, “Some kind of tool made of cast metal (steel, iron)?” Not a tool or any kind of metal. So what was it?

What you saw was part of a glass bottle top. I thought it interesting how something that seems so smooth on first appearance can have such a different texture when viewed up close.

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 292)

Jude thought, “an interesting image – could it be some sort of wind chime?” Although this could certainly work as a wind chime (maybe on a more massive scale), it’s not a wind chime. Can you figure out what was used to make this? What did it look like to you?

So what was it? What you saw was a portion of a large glass chandelier in the World of Coca-Cola gift shop. It was such an unusual piece of lighting with strand after strand of these many glass circles, which made a nice tinkling sound. I assume these circles were made from glass bottles.

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 291)

Shahn asked, “A close up of doll hair? Red hair.” Not doll hair, nor hair. Both Heather and Jude said, “I have no idea.” Jude liked the color, and that’s actually what captured my attention about this object. So what was it?

What you saw was part of an orange glass lamp, which is part of our room’s decor in the JW Marriott hotel here in Atlanta, Georgia. And thanks to all for the birthday wishes! 😀

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 282)

Brenda always offers a unique and funny perspective: “Today’s: I’d have to say it looks like the underside of my dishwasher, magnified, but I’m sure you haven’t been there. Hmm, maybe it’s Martian Pizza. No wait, I know, it’s the top of my van’s engine. I’m so embarrassed. I never clean under there:-)” I had to confess that I don’t clean my engine either. Heather’s perspective was, “I’ve no idea…rust, dirt on metal?” Alas, not rust or dirt on metal. So what was it?

What you saw was the rim of a lighted glass candle holder. I thought it looked like a leaf. 🙂

Day 274/365 – Nature Smiles

Colors are the smiles of nature. – Leigh Hunt

It’s my favorite time of the year, and with the crisp, cooler air, I am just one happy girl. But I have to admit, I’ve been sluggish the last few days (weeks?), it’s been difficult to dedicate my usual energy and enthusiasm to this blog, and some days I think, “Come on day 365!” However, I am too darned stubborn to quit something (especially this far in), and today I feel renewed and ready to find new imaginative mystery subjects to share with you. Color was my inspiration today, lots and lots of color. On that “swipe of the brush … ”

Today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture is ready for your guessing pleasure. Do you know? Can you tell?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 273)

Archecotech commented, “Looks like a baggie full of water.” Not a baggie full of water, but I can see that. 🙂 Weedimageoftheday asked, “Glass vase? Crystal?” Well, although not a vase, it is indeed glass, so ding ding ding!  Yes, what you saw was a drinking glass turned upside down.
