Ese’s Weekly Shoot & Quote Challenge – Intangible

To me, it’s like the difference between a pen and a paintbrush. Music draws from almost the identical place as art does, which really is that intangible – it’s like you’re pulling from the ether. I don’t know where it comes from. Nobody really does. It sort of arrives when it wants to. – Brandon Boyd

The creative fire that burns within: intangible.

Day 112 – One Huge Dream

Everybody’s a dreamer. – John Lithgow

I’ve got a dream, a big dream – to have a house clear of the clutter, so my muse and I can run around free. But wait …  (imagine the sound of a screeching record album) … if I wasn’t a “border hoarder,” I wouldn’t have so many things to capture in mystery “what is it?!?” pictures. So perhaps my family’s untidy house helps me? (Yeah … right.) Did I ever tell you that I’m really good at rationalization? 🙂

Today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture was inspired by its colors. What once was hidden now grabs my eye, I grab the camera, and the magic happens. Do you have any clue? Do you know?

What Is It?!?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 111)

I have to admit there was a very subtle clue for yesterday’s mystery picture. Your key word was “necessity.” Now before I tell you how that clue related to the subject, I’ll first let you know what it wasn’t. A metal piping tip for frosting, although I can see it resembling that.

Okay, back to “necessity.” I needed this item, meaning it’s a tool. Does it look like the tip of a screwdriver? Yes indeed, that’s a different way of looking at a Phillips screwdriver head.

Day 103 – Muse Makes Magic

Trust that little voice in your head that says ‘Wouldn’t it be interesting if…’; And then do it. – Duane Michals

I think I can, I think I can. My first attempt at today’s picture flopped. But then I saw this other subject and the next thing I know, here’s my daily mystery “what is it?!?” picture. Pure magic! Can you tell?

What Is It?!?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 102)

Sometimes I am lucky and end up with multiple images of the same subject that look vastly different. Way back in the beginning of this blog, I posted one of these images. And then yesterday, I decided to post a different perspective of that same subject. So yes, I’ve posted this subject before, but it certainly didn’t look like yesterday’s picture!

Interesting, the different perspectives this one brought: an abstract oil painting, where ocean meets the sky, a crack in a margarita glass, the side of a colored vase, crack in the windshield, something chipped, an ice cube, swirling liquid (like water in a glass), lighter with blue flame, and smeared toothpaste. But yesterday’s picture was the bottom of a blue cordial glass. I just loved the abstract look and feel of the picture, to me it looked like flowing water.

Day 92 – The Stuff Is Everywhere!

The sun is new each day. – Heraclitus

I have become thoroughly enthralled with the sun lately, taking as many pictures as I possibly can throughout the day, just to see what surprises are in store. These surprises are massive sun spots (yesterday’s looked like a heart), or flares, sometimes both. I now view the sun as I do everything else – a mystery waiting to be revealed.

Yesterday I decided to take a picture of something that is very, very prominent this time of year in the region I live (Northern Florida), I even talked about this on my personal Facebook page. How daring I’ve become! I thought it might be a giveaway, funny thing is, it wasn’t and I’ve still got friends guessing today.

But for today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture, I suddenly had an idea of something to photograph, thank you muse! That was simple, and I’m pleasantly surprised with the outcome. The question is, can you tell what it is? Do you know?

What Is It?!?

ImageWhat Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 91)

First, I’ll tell you what yesterday’s subject was not: not chenille, nor any type of fabric. It also wasn’t the surface of a colored Easter egg or egg shells. It wasn’t bread or a gold medallion. And it wasn’t a gold Hershey’s Kiss wrapper. But yum!

It’s springtime here in Tallahassee, Florida. What happens during this time? Lots of budding trees, plants, and flowers. What does that produce … EVERYWHERE and on EVERYTHING?

Pollen. Yellow pollen. This is what my outside dining table looked like before I removed said pollen. Interesting patterns, but yucky stuff!

Day 90 – Time to Make the Donuts …

Our life is what our thoughts make it. – Marcus Aurelius

I have emerged from my food coma to make my daily post, oh boy, this should be fun. So I did manage to find a new subject today and I wasn’t even looking! Thank you, Easter Bunny, in the form of my muse.

Can you guess today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture? Do you know?

What Is It?!?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 89)

Who would have ever thought yesterday’s post, “Mmmmmm … Butter” would generate so many likes. Did I hit the universal appeal of butter? After all, it is delectable and delicious. mmmmmm butter! But I digress. As for the identity of yesterday’s subject …

It wasn’t the back and wings of an angel statue (but I can see that vision!), not metal, not asphalt, rocks? Kind of. Something in the cemetery? No. A crack in the sidewalk? Ding ding ding! Gail guessed it again! Again! 🙂

Day 63 – Morphing into Art

Art does not reproduce what we see; rather, it makes us see. – Paul Klee

I love what I call “artsy-fartsy” shots. I suppose that’s one reason why I love macro photography, because sometimes I end up with those “that would look really cool!” images. The other night I meticulously studied an object, spent a good amount of time looking very, very closely, and captured some of those artsy-fartsy images I like so much. It’s when the subject suddenly morphs into art.

Today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture is just one of those images. Do you know? Can you guess?

What Is It?!?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 62)

I guess that was a difficult one? I had only one guess, the gas jets on a grill. That’s not what it was. This ordinary object we all have in our homes, is that which we hang our clothes. Yes, it’s a clothes hanger, plastic to be exact.

On days when I lack my muse (dirty rascal runs away and hides!) I end up photographing items like this. 😉

Day 58 – Hanging By a Thread

When you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot in it and hang on. – Thomas Jefferson

Oh, my muse, where in the heck are you hiding? Suddenly the stream of creativity has stopped flowing, the barricades are up and impassable, my muse must have escaped down the road without me. Boo, hiss.

Sometimes life just gets in the way. Chaos! Clutter! Child sick!

Today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture was a lark. I had already captured several images when I suddenly thought, “how about this?” It’s one of my all-time favorite go-to items. Can you tell? Do you know?

What Is It?!

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 57)

Yesterday’s picture was one I took over the weekend when my family took a little sojourn to Walt Disney World. It wasn’t a kaleidoscope, not a doped-up on steroids Rubik’s cube, drawing, or multi-sided cube. 🙂 If I say the word “Epcot,” do you know what it is now?

I was inspired by the shapes, geometry, and symmetry of this very large Epcot Spaceship Earth. My son thinks the structure looks like a super-size golf ball. I can attest that the ride inside is well worth the wait. How else would I have had time to take this photograph?

P.S. A special tip-of-the-hat to my hubby for keeping his lips sealed and not giving away the answer. He would have been in Trouble, yes, with a capital T!

Day 52 – Impossible Doesn’t Compute

It’s kind of fun to do the impossible. – Walt Disney

My mind is quite scattered today, I think it might have something to do with a Mickey Mouse in Kissimmee, Florida, we’ve got a date with him and Minnie this weekend! Never fear, I have stocked up on my “what is it?!?” photos so I’ll be able to post some funky pictures while I’m finally unchained from my computer. It’s always nice to have a break, isn’t it?

Today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture was inspired by this object’s beauty. Can you tell?

What Is It?!?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 51)

Yesterday was fun, fun, fun! Several of you played along right here on my blog and I enjoyed every guess! It wasn’t soil or dirt, stuff growing between bricks, a dried leaf, a bad tattoo job, clay planter, concrete, tree stump, sand, doormat, or coconut husk. Instead, it was a picture of the decorative top of a tin lamp post. Amazing that the details looked like so many different things!

Keep those guesses coming!

Day 51 – Hiding in Plain View

Follow your inner moonlight; don’t hide the madness. – Allen Ginsberg

I love this quote! It just speaks to me, as other ordinary items now do, enticing me to take notice and discover what has been hiding in plain view the entire time. Today my muse stood right out in the open and showed me a plethora of visions, all of which I managed to capture with my camera, lens, and my imagination.

Today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture’s texture appeals to me. What does this look like to you? Can you tell?

What Is It?!?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 50)

Finally, I had more interaction here on my blog post than over on my Facebook page, a big thanks to my friend, Shahn, for making the jump over here to make her daily guesses. And another thanks to Carissa for taking a guess, too! It’s not a cheese grater, an open egg carton, garlic press, or an Olive Garden type cheese grater “thingamajig.” 🙂

Instead, yesterday’s subject inspired me with its pointy tips that seemed to sparkle. I pass it everyday in my kitchen. Not only is it great for flattening food items, it’s a perfect way to unleash some frustration: it’s a meat mallet.

I also discovered a sticker that says “Do not put in dishwasher!” Oops! Now I know why, you can see some of the metallic paint chipped off.

Day 47 – It’s Hard as a Rock!

My hand is the extension of the thinking process – the creative process. – Tadao Ando

Today I was lucky in knowing what I wanted to photograph instead of hunting or begging my muse to please point me in the right direction. So here is your daily mystery “what is it?!?” picture, ready for your guesses.

What Is It?!?

ImageWhat Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 46)

Yesterday’s picture wouldn’t have been if I hadn’t just happened to look at the subject differently than normal, meaning what I captured is only present when you look at it in a certain angle with the right kind of light. I’ll first tell you what it wasn’t (the compilation of guesses): dragonfly wing, butterfly wing, glass pane with a river on the other side, leaf, bird feather, glass beads, ice cube, stained glass, water on a flower bush, and finally … Nhi guessed correctly – a rock!

Yes indeed folks, that’s just a rock, with some type of gemstone or other goodies, I never noticed these beautiful vibrant colors until I investigated. I discovered other cool things, too! Interesting how one thing can look like so many different things to different people. It’s all about perspective!
