Day 356/365 – Happiness Is …

Happiness is realizing that nothing is too important. – Antonio Gala

And also being down to the last nine posts of this project is happiness! Speaking of which, today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture is now ready for your guessing pleasure.  Can you tell? Do you know?

What Is It?!?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 355)

I didn’t intentionally make yesterday’s subject a difficult one, it’s just something I noticed while looking closely at this object (you know how I tend to do that type of thing). 😉 Brenda asked, “Are those lights?” Not lights, but don’t they sure look like lights! “Reflections in a mirror or crystal?” Not reflections in a mirror or crystal. “Is it Christmas related? Is it reflected anything?” Not Christmas, and not reflected anything. Jude commented, “I thought they were Christmas lights too, but obviously it was too obvious.” LOL Mic’s perspective was really interesting, “Ok, Schelley, this is tough; I don’t remember what it is called but it looks like a “snow globe” only with colored glass particles instead of “snow”. You shake it and the colored particles swirl around.” It’s not one of those globes, but I could certainly see that too. So what was it?!?

What you saw was actually clear plastic with glitter-type particles “floating” within. When you zoom in really close, such as this image, suddenly these particles look like tiny lights. Cool, eh? 😀

Day 294/365 – Do I Know What I’m Doing?

If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research, would it? – Albert Einstein

Finally! Today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture is ready for your guessing pleasure. Can you tell? Do you know?

What Is It?!?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 293)

Brenda asked, “… wood carving?” Not a wood carving. “Some kind of ceramic?” Not ceramic, although it’s made to look like that. Then weedimageoftheday said, “part of a ceramic vase or sculpture?” It is indeed a sculpture, although not ceramic. I think this looks like metal, and surely thought it was, until I touched it! What you saw was part of a sculpture’s sleeve, made out entirely of plastic.

Day 279/365 – Never Growing Up

You can’t help getting older, but you don’t have to get old. – George Burns

Oh my, the weekend has been on super fast speed, I have literally run out of time. So before I go nighty-night, here is today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture for your guessing pleasure. Can you tell? Do you know?

What Is It?!?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 278)

Jude started off the guessing game with, “Well, it kind of looks like a wonderful chocolate decoration on the top of a cake …” But it’s not a decoration, nor chocolate. Marilyn said, “It does look like a chocolate. But it’s a little dark … maybe licorice.” Alas, not licorice, nor any type of candy or food. Heather thought, “Don’t know…it looks like hard plastic, a button or toggle???” It is hard plastic, but not a button or toggle. Brenda jumped in with, “Looks like the plastic hair of a toy on a finger. Maybe a lego figure?” Plastic hair would be correct, but where? It’s not a Lego, but it is a toy. ” … some kind of doll?” Yes, it is a form of doll. Then Seonaid gave a very interesting perspective, “I don’t like the look of it….makes me think of an insect with a black shiny exoskeleton……and it’s sitting on skin. Yikes!” So what was it?

What you saw was part of the mustache on a Mr. Potato Head doll. 🙂

Day 259/365 – Soothe Me Spray

Life is the fire that burns and the sun that gives light. Life is the wind and the rain and the thunder in the sky. Life is matter and is earth, what is and what is not, and what beyond is in Eternity. – Lucius Annaeus Seneca

Today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture was a result of looking at something with a closer perspective, and I so enjoy the outcome! So now it’s your turn to guess. Can you tell? Do you know?

What Is It?!?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 258)

Brenda said, “It looks like a submarine diving. Did you put a toy submarine in blueberry jello? My kids would love that!!” Although not that, I, too, think that would be pretty awesome … until I have to clean it up! Marlyn guessed a flashlight. Not a flashlight. And then Marilyn says, “Shadow of the great white shark (music up full).” LOVE IT! And I can see the shark’s open jaws. (Music gets louder) Alas, it’s not a shark. Jude guessed a glass bowl. Not a glass bowl. So what was it?

What you saw was part of a plastic cap/lid to my bottle of Solarcaine. Besides being oh-so-soothing for sunburns, it also helps relieve mosquito bite itching, which happens a lot around here. 😉

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 242)

Was it the doohickey that lowers toast? Not that doohickey. Is it metal? Yes. Is it part of a case or a suitcase or briefcase? No. Is it part of R2D2? Ha ha, no. Brenda continues, “Is it the silver tooth of a laughing troll?” Snicker snicker, he he. No. A clue: You would find this subject just about anywhere. Is it a frame? Not a frame. It serves a purpose, it is part of … Kitchen tool? Not a kitchen tool. “Is it a mind control tool (read: remote control)?” Not remotely a tool, ha ha. Shahn asked, “Is it the side of a hand can opener?” Not that either. Girish commented, “It’s actually very sexy if you turn it sideways :) Is it a knife sharpener?” Not a knife sharpener.

So what was it? What you saw was part of a door handle, the “lever” type that you push the handle down to open the door.

Day 242/365

Happiness often sneaks in through a door you didn’t know you left open. – John Barrymore

A last hurrah for the summer this Labor Day weekend, we’re spending it with my sister-in-law and nieces. Fun in the sun! So expect late posts (like tonight). However, today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture is ready for your guessing pleasure. Can you tell? Do you know?

What Is It?!?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 241)

Jude commented, “Thinking of shredded wheat (breakfast cereal) but don’t know if you have that over there, otherwise a loofah?” Well, we do have shredded wheat (which I really like), but it’s not that or a loofah. Pat said, “is that a sideways allium?” Not a sideways allium. Kathryn asked, “A knot of rope or twine?” Ding ding ding! Yes, it’s a very old piece of rope wound around a column in Apalachicola, Florida. Brenda chimed in, “I was thinking today’s looked like an SOS pad (kitchen scrubber) or maybe something underwater, like coral. But an old frayed rope makes perfect sense. As for the stormtrooper. Wow. Speechless.”

Day 241/365

There are always two people in every picture: the photographer and the viewer. – Ansel Adams

You know something bad has happened when hubby calls and says, “Don’t freak out, everyone’s okay …” and then proceeds to explain he’s been in a car accident … almost within walking distance to our neighborhood. Don’t accidents always happen closest to home? Thank goodness that no-one was hurt, even with an overturned vehicle (not his). Miracles do happen!

So after calming down, I was able to figure out today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture, which is ready for your guessing pleasure. Can you tell? Do you know?

What Is It?!?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 240)

Was it a light bulb? Not a light bulb. “Jelly (jello if you’re american) mould?” Not a jello/jelly mould/mold. (Don’t you just love the differences in spelling between UK and US English?) 😉 Could it be a radiator? Not a radiator. So what was it?

Well … my hubby happens to be a Star Wars fanatic (okay, we all are in this household, but he’s the most fanatic of all), and not only has he built his own R2D2 (better than the one in the movie!), he has his own Stormtrooper outfit, which he also hand built. So what you saw was part of his Stormtrooper shoulder (ABS plastic). If you want to see a picture of R2D2, check out Day 67 – This Is Not the Droid You’re Looking For.

And yes, if you’re wondering, we’re the coolest house in the neighborhood for Halloween! 😀

Day 212 – Diligence

Diligence is the mother of good fortune. – Benjamin Disraeli

A very quick post since I have to pack for a family reunion, which means probably really late posts for the next few days! However, today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture is ready for your guessing pleasure. Do you know? Can you tell?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 211)

Jude’s guesses: Was it a plastic clip thingy? No. The edge of a laptop lid? Not that either. “I am so going to kick myself when you tell me the answer – it looks SO familiar!!” Annie said, “Wow, it looks so familiar, I could not guess it!” Yes, indeed, it is a familiar object, Jude and Annie! Windshield wipers? Not windshield wipers. And then, almost simultaneously, the winning bell rings for multiple people! Kathryn was the first to guess, then Norbert, and over in Facebook land, JC, Glenn and Scott all guessed it, too. What you saw was a plastic clothes hanger.

Day 195 – Vision of Success

Hope fills the holes of my frustration in my heart. – Emanuel Cleaver

My son has been on summer vacation for over a month now and is almost in tears because he has to write a blog post about a book he’s recently read, and I am oh so frustrated! I suppose my sympathy is limited because I write, edit, and produce almost 6,000 pages in software documentation. Anyway, I’ve been trying to tell him if you just put your mind to it and stop complaining, it will be easier than you think. It’s all about determination and perspective. If you think you’re going to fail, you probably will (self-fulfilling prophecy); however, if you can envision success, you will achieve success.

Before the blog book report tears started, Ian actually suggested today’s subject, so here’s your daily mystery “what is it?!?” picture ready for you to guess.

What Is It?!?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 194)

Yesterday’s picture probably looked familiar, but taken out of its context, was not guessable. So what was it? What you saw was part of my car’s dashboard. The silver portion is plastic, although it might look metal.

Day 184 – Bring on the Clouds

Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add color to my sunset sky. – Rabindranath Tagore

Bring on the clouds, let it rain, give color to my sunset sky! Alas, I’m sitting here looking outside and it’s so dark, like it’s almost nighttime, but it’s only the middle of the day. Constant rumbling comes from the sky and torrents of rain come down pretty much constantly. I’d much rather be in bed reading a good book, snuggled up with my son, rather than writing new documentation. It’s the perfect day for being lazy! But the job awaits …

Today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture is ready for your perspective. What do you see?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 183)

Yesterday’s picture was finally guessed by a matter of elimination, as Melisa’s guesses were OH-SO-CLOSE! “My first guess is this: a plastic cutting board. Although it looks a little different from what we use here. My second guess is this: a white rectangular lid.”  Well, it is plastic, but it’s not a cutting board. And it is white and a lid, but not rectangular. “A square lid!!!” But it’s not square. “I don’t want to be unfair, so here’s my last guess: an oval lid!” Alas, not oval, and guesses are unlimited around here! And then Melisa nailed it with “… maybe it’s a round lid?”

Indeed! What you saw was a white, round plastic lid. Specifically, it’s a prescription medicine bottle lid. It was fun putting this to use other than fighting high blood pressure! 😉
