Your 18th (!) weekly “what is it?!?” mystery picture is ready for your guessing pleasure. Do you know? Can you tell?
What Is It?!?
What Was That?!? (Last Week’s Picture) – Week 17/52
Fabio started the guessing game, “Schelley, is it a cork?” Not a cork. Cee mused, “No clue. I’ll have tot put on my thinking cap. Maybe part of a tattoo.” Not part of a tattoo, but I can see that. Sarah said, “Looks like someone went a bit mad with some eyeliner on the back of their hand!!!” LOL! Not eyeliner gone mad. “Is it a piece of decorated pottery?” Ding ding ding! Yes, it is a piece of decorated pottery. Do you know what in particular made the decoration? “Yay me … I suspect it was string dipped in paint!” Not a string dipped in paint. “Was it something simple like a felt tipped pen?” Not simple. So what was it?
What you saw was a piece of horsehair pottery. This technique, created by Native Americans, was told to have happened when a Pueblo woman’s hair brushed against the very hot pottery just out of the kiln. What resulted was a beautiful pattern. She played with applying different items, and stumbled upon horsehair creating the nicest effect. It is indeed beautiful!
