Weekly Photo Challenge: Yellow

Stained Glass

A piece of a stained glass window that belonged to my mom shows what yellow means to me: a vibrant color representing strength and light, which negate all the drab grey colors of life, death, and grief. My mom was such a vibrant and strong woman, yellow is her soul. Shine on, mama.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Twinkle

2014_07_18_9999_3152014_07_18_9999_320

(Two images) Our last night in Costa Rica, we stayed way up in the mountains, and we feasted at this restaurant overlooking the twinkling lights of San Jose. The top image, although technically out of focus, was my attempt to create an “artsy fartsy” shot of the lights, which looks like twinkling bokeh to me. The bottom image shows the twinkle of the city. Pura Vida!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Gone, But Not Forgotten

Takeoff

When the space shuttle system was retired, some thought that NASA’s mission would die. But die it did not. Although none of the shuttles fly anymore, and Atlantis is now home at Kennedy Space Center, NASA’s mission does indeed continue. Today’s epic launch of the #Orion-EFT1 starts a new chapter into our exploration of space. Who knows, maybe my child or his, will be one of the first to explore Mars in person. So Atlantis might be gone, but she certainly is not forgotten. Here she is launching into our sky, mission STS-132, on May 14, 2010. (I still get goosebumps!)

2014_09_19_9999_340 And here she is home at Kennedy Space Center.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Converge

2014_03_17_9999_110

This building in San Antonio, Texas, looks like an optical illusion when viewed directly in front, the building seems to converge with the sky. But it’s just a facade – the photograph below shows the true architecture.

Part of one of the lightning rods on Launch Pad 39B at Kennedy Space Center in Florida; to me, this image says “angular.”

Weekly Photo Challenge: Dreamy

Dreamy

While waiting for what would be the best massage ever at the Tabacon Spa & Resort in Costa Rica, I spotted this oh-so-dreamy looking carnations and had to take a picture. That place was indeed dreamy. Wish I was there! 🙂

Weekly Photo Challenge: Nighttime

When we visited New Orleans for a week, our last night we went on a ghost tour. The night was perfect –  a full moon, cloudy sky, wind blowing, just the right combination. All of the buildings looked spooky at night, in particular, the house with the green and purple lights. I thought these pictures are perfect for this week’s Daily Post photo challenge.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Adventure

My favorite adventure in Costa Rica was our trip along the Cano Negro (Black River), which was at the very top of Costa Rica; we were about seven miles from Nicaragua. We saw so much wildlife along the river, which was quite an adventure!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Silhouette

silhouette

A silhouette of my then 11-year old son, Ian, standing next to the entrance to the Museo Del Oro Precolomeino in San Jose, Costa Rica. This country’s museum has the largest collection of pre-Columbian gold artifacts. This was a most interesting place to visit, you would just not believe the craftsmanship – back in the days when there were no tools, only handmade ones. Some pieces were quite tiny, and others were huge. My son had no idea how much these priceless antiquities are worth. I literally had my jaw drop at the beauty. WOW.

Weekly Photo Challenge – Contrasts

SunIMG_0285

(Two images) The sun and the moon – two universal contrasts. The better the contrast on the moon, the better the view. The sun photograph was taken with a solar filter on my telescope, which acted as my camera’s lens.
