What Is It?!?

2014_09_19_9999_424

Just a fun photo I captured while touring Kennedy Space Center. I figured I owed all of you at least one more “what is it?!?” mystery picture, this might be easy, but it was oh-so-fun to photograph!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Perspective

2013_03_28_3385 2013_03_28_3382

Now if this challenge isn’t literally “right up my alley,” I don’t know what is. My blog, What Is It?!? – A Project in Perspective, is all about – yep, you guessed it – perspective! For this challenge, here are two different (and never before posted) perspectives of a former “mystery subject,” but this time, with the answer. 🙂

What you see is the side of a glass pane of an outdoor lamp. This subject generated so many different perspectives (aka “guesses”); if you want to see what all of the guesses were, check out the blog post here. This time around, I converted the images to black and white.

To see other interpretations of Perspective, check out the Daily Post’s Weekly Photo Challenge here.

What Is It?!? – Week 8/52

Colors are the smiles of nature. – Leigh Hunt

I was quite pleased with the outcome of this macro photograph, which is your eighth weekly “what is it?!?” mystery picture, ready for your guessing pleasure. Do you know? Can you tell?

What Was That?!? Last Week’s Picture (Week 7/52)

Fabio mused, “It seems like muscle. It is hard to be guessed!” Not muscle, although I can see that! Tracy thought, “Cooked pasta:-) with water running over it!!!” Not cooked pasta with water running over it, but that is a really neat perspective. Preeti guessed, “a part of some porcelain figure??” Not part of a porcelain figure. “Is it hair?? lovely long golden tresses” Not hair, but I can see that, too. And then Mic came along and guessed, “Some type of synthetic rope?” Ding ding ding!

Yes, what you saw was rope (synthetic), which is part of the handle on a laundry tub.

What Is It?!? – Week 1/52

Perplexity is the beginning of knowledge. – Khalil Gibran

So begins the new year 2014 with the “What Is It?!? – A Project in Perspective” blog, the first of 52 weekly mystery picture posts. I had so much fun with my 365-day project in 2013, there’s just no way I can drop this mystery picture guessing game. But because I’ve got other things to attend to (a.k.a. kid, hubby, and a very messy, cluttered, overflowing house), we’ll just have to play a weekly guessing game.

And now, your weekly “what is it?!?” mystery picture is ready for your guessing pleasure. Do you know? Can you tell?

What Is It?!?

2014_01_05_9999_2-2

I’ll post the answer to this mystery subject in next week’s “What Is It?!?” – Week 2/52″ post. Or, one of y’all will guess it and I’ll confirm in the Comment/What’s Your Perspective section. 😀

P.S. I’ve been thinking about perhaps hosting a Mystery Picture Photo Challenge … what do you think? (After a year, I figured I might as well learn how to use this Poll feature.) 😉

Day 345/365 – Twenty and Counting

Never, never, never give up. – Winston Churchill

Today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture is finally ready for your guessing pleasure.  Can you tell? Do you know?

What Is It?!?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 344)

Ed commented, “Looks a bit like chocolate ice cream.. but then.. :-) Mmmmmm, chocolate ice cream. Chocolate anything! I wish! But alas, not chocolate ice cream. Y. Prior mused, “344 – looks like candy!” Mmmmmmm, candy. But not candy either. So what was it?

What you saw was the side of a candle.

P.S. A little confession … I’ve used a candle (albeit a different candle) as a mystery subject before, waaaaaaaaay back on Day 18. That seems like such a long time ago!

Day 344/365 – Punctuation. Period.

I’m tired of wasting letters when punctuation will do, period. – Steve Martin

Oh. So. Late. Oh. So. Tired. 😉 Before my head falls over, today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture is now ready for your guessing pleasure.  Can you tell? Do you know?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 343)

Jude started off with, “…  well a shaggy dog comes to mind, but my mind is tired and it is well after time for bed. I’ll check in the morning and see what others come up with.” Not a shaggy dog, but I can see that. “Is it a sweeping brush?” Not for sweeping, but it is a brush. Ding ding ding! Then Katie said, “Wow, this is a mind-bender for sure!! Is it a paintbrush?” It’s not for paint, but it is a brush. Ding ding ding! 😀

So what you saw was a makeup brush, a brush nonetheless. 😉

Day 343/365 – Achieving the Goal

Great works are performed not by strength but by perseverance. – Samuel Johnson

Once I make up my mind to do something, I will do whatever I can to reach that goal. I seem to go for the large goals though (cough, cough, like this 365-day project), which end up taking an infinite amount of time … and thus some other things don’t get done. Like the laundry. Or the dusting. Or getting the folded clothes off of the love seat! 😉 Egads, these are just the last things I want to do! But it seems as though I’m going to have to approach Cluttered Casa Cassidy as its own 365-day project in order to get this home in order! (Note to self: maybe doing a 52-week project wouldn’t be so daunting.)

Before I commit to anything, I’ll finish this project first, and with that said, here is today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture, ready for your guessing pleasure.  Can you tell? Do you know?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 342)

The other night, I was working with yesterday’s mystery subject and noticed its hidden beauty. Once I took the photographs and looked closely, I was very pleased with the outcome – and when I converted this image to black and white, I was more than pleased! Suddenly it took on an abstract look. Brenda said, “I can’t decide it if looks more like food or carpeting. Disturbing that it could be either…” Well, it’s not food or carpeting. SueBee commented, “I’d almost say pine cone, but the points aren’t defined well enough. “ Correct, it’s not a pine cone. Marlyn guessed, “christmas tree trimmings, the ribbon-like decor that goes around the tree (?)” Not Christmas tree trimmings/garland. Kim mused, “I have to go back to another person’s guess on the meat tenderizing mallet and say, a cheese grater?” Not a cheese grater. Jude came closest with, “Looks like some kind of fibre – braid possibly? Or a rag rug?” Not a braid or rag rug, but it is a fibre. So what was it?

Believe it or not, what you saw was part of a skein of yarn.

Does the yarn look any different with its original color?

Day 191 – Boom Boom Boom!

Things do not change; we change. – Henry David Thoreau

Listening to thunder while observing sunshine is so surreal, as I’m doing right now. I just love Mother Nature, don’t you?

Today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture is ready for you to guess. What do you see?

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 190)

Oh so sad, no guesses to report for yesterday’s picture. So what was it? What you saw was a pattern on a box, it kind of looked like scales/skin to me.

Day 190 – Guru Speak

Photography, as a powerful medium of expression and communications, offers an infinite variety of perception, interpretation and execution. – Ansel Adams

I actually took today’s mystery “what is it?!?” picture just a minute ago. Instead of searching throughout my house for a subject, I decided to use the first thing I came across. So now it’s your turn to figure out the subject! Can you tell? Do you know?

What Is It?!?

2013_07_09_9999_3-2

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 189)

Was it a tennis racket? Not a tennis racket. How about a plastic dish drainer? Well, it’s not a dish drainer, but it is plastic. Is it the plastic part you put at the top of a shaker bottle? Not that. Is it a plastic napkin holder? Not a napkin holder. And then, almost simultaneously, Joe and Sue both guessed, “fly swatter?” Double ding ding ding!

Yes, what you saw was a fly swatter. I loved Melisa’s comment: “My next guess was: a plastic toy racket. But the ding-ding bell has sounded and I’m swatting my last guess.” How pun-rific! 😉

Day 189 – Express Yourself

Challenging the meaning of life is the truest expression of the state of being human. – Viktor E. Frankl

Another dreary Monday, it would be oh-so-nice if the “Sunshine State” of Florida that I live, would actually see some sun. I am a spoiled Floridian, I expect to see lots of that yellow orb that has become so distant to us. Instead, we hear lots of rumbling and see lots of liquid rain. It’s definitely not liquid sunshine!

Today’s “what is it?!?” picture is ready for your guessing pleasure. What’s your perspective?

What Is It?!?

2013_04_21_5113

What Was That?!? Yesterday’s Picture (Day 188)

The general consensus was that the image looked familiar, but couldn’t quite figure out where the familiarity was coming from. Is it a cheese grater? Not a cheese grater. How about the base of an iron? Not an iron either. Is it a blade on a juicer/liquidizer? No, not a blade either.

Instead of using a true macro picture, yesterday I used a photograph on a much larger scale and merely cropped it to show only a tiny portion. What does one do while waiting in line at Disney’s Magical Kingdom? Take pictures, of course! In this case, I took a photograph of a ride’s outer building metal decoration – I believe this was for the Monsters Inc. ride that we finally gave up on after waiting an hour.  Here’s a look at the entire picture.

And I also flipped the cropped picture. 🙂
